New developments in Blouberg, Cape Town
Blouberg suits families, first-time buyers and outdoor people who want newer homes, more space for the money and a beach nearby, and who will drive or take the MyCiTi bus to work. It lies on the West Coast north of the city, across Table Bay from Table Mountain: Bloubergstrand, Big Bay, Table View, Parklands and Sunningdale. Parklands and Sunningdale are among Cape Town's newer suburbs, so new developments are common here.

Living in Blouberg
Blouberg is beach-and-suburb living. Bloubergstrand and Big Bay face Table Bay, with the classic view of Table Mountain and Robben Island across the water, while Table View, Parklands and Sunningdale spread inland with shopping centres, schools and sports clubs. The Atlantic is cold, and the summer south-easter is strong, which is why the beaches are busy with kite- and windsurfers.
North of Big Bay, the City's Blaauwberg Nature Reserve protects 1 445 ha of fynbos, renosterveld and strandveld and about 7 km of coastline. Blaauwberg Hill is one of the few places from which you can see two World Heritage Sites, Table Mountain and Robben Island. The reserve was certified as a Green Coast site for 2026/27, and Big Bay is a Blue Flag pilot site for 2026/27.
Getting around: MyCiTi, R27 and N7
Blouberg has no Metrorail line; public transport is the City's MyCiTi bus. Trunk route T01 runs from Dunoon through Table View to the Civic Centre and V&A Waterfront, and routes T02 and T03 connect Table View with Atlantis, Melkbosstrand and Century City. Local feeder routes 213, 214a, 215, 216 and 223 cover Parklands, Sunningdale, West Beach and Big Bay.
By car, the R27 (West Coast Road and Marine Drive) is the main route into town and separates Table View from Bloubergstrand, while the M14 (Otto du Plessis Drive) runs along the coast. The N7 on the eastern side links to the N1 and the northern suburbs. Peak-hour traffic into the city is heavy, so test the drive at the times you would actually travel.
The property market and new developments
Because much of Parklands and Sunningdale was built in the last few decades, Blouberg has more room for new projects than the older parts of Cape Town. You will find sectional-title apartment complexes, security estates and townhouse developments inland, and apartment blocks with sea views closer to the beach in Big Bay, Bloubergstrand and West Beach. Many projects are pitched at first-time buyers and young families.
With a lot of similar stock on the market, compare unit sizes, levies, parking and what the body corporate actually maintains, not only the price. Wind and salt are hard on sea-facing buildings, so ask how the facades and windows are specified. See current projects on our developments page and read our guide to buying off-plan in South Africa.
Who Blouberg suits
Blouberg suits buyers who want more space and newer homes for their budget, families who want schools, malls and a beach close together, water-sports people, and those who work in Century City, Montague Gardens or the northern suburbs. It is also popular with buyers who want a lock-up-and-go apartment near the sea.
It suits fewer people who need to reach the Southern Suburbs every day, or who want old trees and heritage streets. For a city-centre lifestyle compare the City Bowl; for warmer sea water look at False Bay.
